MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — This winter amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department will be doing educational patrols on frozen lakes and ponds to offer tips on ice fishing and to chat with anglers.

Formal education programs are prohibited so anglers are being encouraged to fish on lakes hosting the patrols, the department said.

“We know many anglers have questions they would like to ask a warden, and we also know anglers are always looking to learn new tips and tricks,” Education Specialist Corey Hart said in a statement.

The educational patrols will last one to two hours with department staff walking among the anglers with plans to spend at least 10 minutes per group.

“This is a great opportunity for anglers new to fishing that are looking to improve their success or who have questions about fishing regulations,” Chief Warden Colonel Jason Batchelder said in a statement.

Dates, times and locations of the sessions is available on the Fish and Wildlife Department's website.
