BALDWIN – It’s mid-October but the salmon run in Lake County appears to still be going very strong.

Various reports from fishing experts in the Lake County area indicate.

“It’s sunny, and the fish either aren’t biting or then they are,” Larry Roberts, of Ed’s Sport Shop said. “There are salmon in the river. There’s a few steelhead in there too. Not many, but a few.”

Other Lake County fishing observers agree.

“Fishing has been pretty good,” Jake McMillon, of Baldwin Bait & Tackle, said. “Salmon fishing continues to be productive. There’s some old fish and some new fish. Trout fishing has been good behind them. There’s a lot of egg patterns and nymph patterns for the trout. There are a few steelhead around.”

There are also favorable reports elsewhere.

“Things are going awesome,” Frank Willetts, of Pere Marquette River Lodge, said. “It’s amazing how many fish are in the river right now. The run is, overall, three weeks late. People showing up now are utterly amazed how many fish are in the river for this late in the season. I’m on the river right now (Friday mid-afternoon) on a guide trip and we’re still catching fresh salmon.

“There’s a ton of salmon and steelhead are starting to show up and being caught. We’re seeing a something with flies only and down the river being caught every day.”
