Campbell County lake will receive stockings of trout, catfish
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Robert J. Barth Lake in Campbell County is the newest addition to the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINs) program offered through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife partnered with the city of Cold Spring to add 3.7-acre Barth Lake to the popular FINs program, bringing the total to 45 lakes across Kentucky. Through the program, the department stocks the lake with keeper-size trout and catfish throughout the year. Lakes enrolled in the FINs program are located in park-like settings near major population centers in 28 counties.
Barth Lake is scheduled to receive its first stocking of 750 rainbow trout on Nov. 16. Trout will be stocked every November, February and March as part of the program. The lake will also receive catfish four times a year, in March, April, May and June. Bass and sunfish populations will be routinely surveyed and stocked as needed to bring the fish population into balance.
The lake is located at 967 Buning Lane in Cold Spring, Ky. To help spread out fish harvest to as many anglers as possible, lakes enrolled in the FINs program have a standard set of regulations posted for anglers to observe.
Anglers may keep 15 sunfish, such as bluegill, daily and one largemouth bass 15 inches or longer. Anglers may keep five rainbow trout daily, but must possess a valid Kentucky Trout Permit to keep trout. They may also harvest four catfish daily.
The FINs program began in 2006 as a way to provide quality fishing opportunities in more urban settings. FINs lakes offer easy access and are family friendly.
