Thoughts on U.S. semiconductor strategy.
Hello, and happy Thursday!
By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard that there’s a global shortage of semiconductors and that the United States, especially, has been feeling the squeeze for nearly two years. Even before this shortage, the importance of microchips (also called integrated circuits, or ICs) was being discussed more prominently in the context of national security and the nation’s technological competition with China. Since then, there’ve been several important developments and I thought it’d be a good idea for us to get up-to-speed on where things stand and what remains to be done.
But first, let’s quickly review how we got here.
