The second and final Fish-for-Free days is set for Independence Day, Saturday, July 4.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission sets a couple days each year when Pennsylvania residents may go fishing on the state’s waterways without fishing licenses, trout-salmon stamps or Lake Erie permits.
Only the licensing requirements are lifted, and all other fishing regulations, including seasons and creel limits, will remain in effect.
The first of two Fish-for-Free days for 2020 was held on Sunday, May 24, during the Memorial Day weekend.
The commission offers the Fish-for-Free days to attract new people to the sport of fishing by eliminating the price of fishing license for a try-out period.
The price of an annual resident fishing license this year is still $22.90. Multi-year options are also available in 3, 5 and 10 year increments. The most popular add-ons, a trout-salmon permit and a Lake Erie permit cost $9.90 each, or $15.90 for a combination permit. There is also a one-day resident fishing license available for $11.90.
On days other than Fish-for-Free days anyone 16 years and older must have a license to fish legally.
