West Virginia just added more big-play potential to their future offensive attack in the form of four-star receiver Kaden Prather who announced his pledge to the Mountaineers on Saturday.
Recruited by offensive coordinator Gerad Parker, Prather chose WVU over his other finalists in Penn State, Maryland, South Carolina and Oklahoma. The Germantown (Md.) Northwest standout has a long-standing relationship with Parker who was the receivers coach for the Nittany Lions a year ago.
Prather turned 42 receptions into 895 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior, showcasing good top-end speed, physicality after the catch, a smooth route runner that can win the contested catch. Prater is elusive in the open field and joins a West Virginia class that is coming together nicely on the offensive side of the ball.
That starts under center.
I believe quarterback recruit Will Crowder will be the face of West Virginia football in a couple years. He’s shown he can do it all in all facets of the game. Completing 70 percent of his passes as a junior, Crowder is a strong decision maker with pocket awareness, anticipation and instincts to make the right read and play. Shows the arm talent to not only deliver down field but throw strikes into windows. He has the touch and obviously the accuracy. Crowder can also make things happen when things break down around him, tested a laser-timed 4.7 40-yard dash prior to his junior season on The Opening camp circuit, he’s rushed for over 1,200 yards over the last two seasons.
Perhaps even more importantly Brown and his staff have their franchise left tackle in Wyatt Milum who is tracking for a fifth-star when all said and done in the Top247. We have 32 five-stars per recruiting class marking the number of first round draft picks each year and the 6-foot-6, 273-pound Milum checks in at No. 23 nationally at this point in the cycle. He committed on March 6, the next day Prather actually arrived for an overnight visit to Morgantown. There was certainly a lot of buzz on campus regarding this class at that time and that momentum continues today with Prather now in the boat.
The way Brown, Parker and company are trying to build this offense, it starts at the point of attack. Being able to protect the passer and run the football and Milum is a high upside prospect that excels at both. The future left tackle of this program, he is someone that can play early with the traits to really blossom physically. He can fix things with his feet and has strong hands. The hand-eye coordination is evident with that baseball background and don't question the physicality as you can see him punish people as a two-way player on film.
Speaking of running the ball, enter four-star Jaylen Anderson, one of the more versatile players at the position in the country. Anderson is terrific catching the ball out of the backfield, capable of eclipsing 1,000 yards rushing and receiving as a senior. A load at 210 pounds, Anderson can ban between the tackles but he’s also elusive with loose hips and nice moves in space. Anderson lines up all over the field and also makes his presence felt on defense. Like Prrather, he can take the top off the defense and make the difficult grab in coverage.
Then you have a stretch the middle of the field, high upside, do everything type tight end recruit in Treylan Davis and the athletic Victor Wikstrom from over the pond and this is a sneaky good offensive haul to date for the Mountaineeers. in 2021.
