Finding out you can make decent potato chips in the microwave has changed my life - Yahoo Sports

You can make pretty much anything in the microwave. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be good, though.

Lately, TikTokers have been making potato chips in the microwave. They’re a healthier (and fancier!) alternative to the chips you can find at nearly any other store.

At this point in quarantine, we’ll take an easy at-home cooking win.

In The Know editor AmiLin McClure made her own microwave-friendly potato chips, then bravely tested the result to spare you any potential heartache or wasted potatoes.

Here’s how to make potato chips in the microwave.

You’ll need these ingredients if you’d like to make them yourself, according to Kitchn:

  • 1 medium-sized russet potato

  • Salt and other reasonings, optional

  • Olive oil, optional

Really, it’s just a potato and whatever spice strikes your fancy.

First, you’ll need to chop up the potato into really thin slices.

“You’ll know you’re doing it right if the potato is a little bit transparent,” AmiLin explained.

Second — and this is key — make an ice bath. It removes starch from the potato slices so they’re extra crispy when you cook them. Soak the potatoes in the ice bath for a minute or two.

Third, line up the potato pieces on a microwave-safe plate with parchment paper. Don’t double up. If you’d like, drizzle a little olive oil and seasoning on top. AmiLin topped hers with rosemary.

Finally, pop the potato slices into the microwave for two minutes. Then, flip them over and do it again. That’s it!

Are they actually good, though?

“Oh my gosh, it worked,” AmiLin said “I cannot believe I just made them in the microwave.”

The chips tasted like the real thing, too. This was a total success.

Should I actually spend time doing this?

There’s never a bad time to eat chips, and if they only take 10 minutes, there’s never a bad time to cook them, either. We say go for it.
