ONEKAMA — The Manistee County Sport Fishing Association’s Fun Fish took place over the weekend and brought about 35 adults and kids to the ice.
The winners according to the association’s Facebook page were:
• Jerry Brown took first for his 7.2-pound pike with Greg Bennett coming in second in the category at 4.35 pounds. Brown won $122.50 in prize cash.
• Mike Chmielewski and Mindy Sedelmaier tied for pan fish with perch both coming in at 1.35 pounds. They split the prize money with $52.50 each.
Phil Sedelmaier, event organizer, said of the winning fish that "you never know what's going to be caught," meaning that it might take a big fish to land the winner for that species' category, or it can be a small one.
He said the temperatures and ice were in good form but the wind was harsh over the weekend.
The official weigh station was at Papa J’s Ice Cream and Eatery where coffee and food was provided. Young anglers also scored fishing poles at the event.
The next Manistee County Sport Fishing Association event, Small Boat Big Fish Tournament is scheduled for May 14. That tournament features anglers focusing on salmon and trout on Lake Michigan.
More information on that and other tournaments and events is expected to be shared on the association's Facebook page.
