That’s one stylish snack.
Kim Kardashian’s favorite fashion house, Balenciaga, is back with another whimsical bag.
This time, creative director Demna has paired up with PepsiCo for a series of purses designed to look like Lay’s potato chip pouches.
The tasty totes were a part of Balenciaga’s muddy runway presentation during Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, but went largely unnoticed at the time, with models holding the crumpled clutches to their sides.
According to Hypebeast, the $4 Lay’s chip bag has been transformed into a zippered leather clutch, styled in four “flavors” — Original, Salt & Vinegar, Lime and Flamin’ Hot — complete with Balenciaga branding. They’ll reportedly retail for $1,800 a pop.
The Spanish fashion house is known for its kooky accessories, most recently selling the “most expensive trash bag in the world” for $1,790; Kim Kardashian is a huge fan of the viral style.
However, fashion fans were mixed on the Frito-Lay partnership.
“They’re trolling us,” one person commented on Diet Prada’s Instagram post. Another said, “balenciaga is just a social experiment on consumerism at this point,” while a third wrote, “Just like Lays bags, this is literally half hot air.”
Lay’s even posted the Balenciaga runway looks on its Instagram account on Oct. 3, with fans of the snack lamenting that the Flamin’ Hot variety is apparently sold out in many locations — and that the designer purse comes sans chips.
Also of note at the edgy Balenciaga show was Kanye West making his runway debut as a model, sporting tactical gear and a mouth guard to open the presentation.
The next day, the rapper made waves at his own Yeezy Season 9 show, wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt that sparked a wave of backlash and ongoing concern about his mental health.
