Vermont to close Salisbury fish hatchery - WCAX

kuaciasing.blogspot.com

SALISBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont Fish & Wildlife officials say they plan to close the Salisbury fish hatchery.

The Salisbury Fish Culture Station is home to Vermont’s broodstock trout which are the mature trout that produce eggs for the state’s other hatcheries. Officials say the closure will impact Vermont anglers by reducing Vermont’s ability to produce trout for stocking over the next three to five years as production is transferred to other hatcheries.

It’s unclear how much the closure will save. All positions will be transferred.

Governor Scott proposed the same idea in 2019 before pushback from the fishing community kept it open.
