What started as a family trying to find healthy snacks for their son turned into a multimillion-dollar company with headquarters in southeast Wisconsin.Jackson's Chips is changing the industry and growing at a rapid pace, less than seven years after an appearance on Shark Tank. 12 News got an exclusive tour of the Muskego plant.More than 200,000 pounds of sweet potatoes are delivered daily to Jackson's production facility."The original idea of Jackson's Honest was Megan and Scott Reamer were parents, it was named after their son Jackson. Jackson had a rare autoimmune disease," said Jackson's President and CEO, James Marino.The Reamers, desperate to create a healthy snack for their son, started making their own sweet potato chips without additives or seed oils.Sadly, their son died in 2017, but his legacy lives on through an idea the Reamers took to Shark Tank on ABC.After appearing on the show, a group of investors, including Marino, who is from Milwuakee, brought production to southeast Wisconsin. "Usually, kettle chips are made with white potato chips and seed oil. We have three ingredients that come in the door. Sweet potatoes, avocado oil, and seasoning," he said.Jackson's sweet potato chips can be found in more than 10,000 stores worldwide. On some lines they pump more than 80 bags per minute at the factory, with plans to expand."Our 5 oz product can do about 85 bags per minute, and the big bags, 16-ounce bags for club channel, can do about 50 bags per minute," he said.Last year, the company expanded by 10,000 square feet."We doubled our production capacity, and now we're in the process of filling second and third shifts," Marino said.With 70 employees, Marino hopes to hire and grow even more."More fryers, more baggers, more oil handing capacity."When asked if Jackson's plans to stay in southeast Wisconsin, Marino responded, "Absolutely, yeah."From 2022 to 2023, the Jackson's business grew by 287%, year over year.You can find their chips in local stores like Sendiks and Metro Market, as well as national chains like Costco and Whole Foods.For more information, click here.
