CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming is always full of great hunting opportunities and this fall is no different in the Cowboy State.

It’s a great excuse to explore that outdoors, teach the family a new skill and bring home some healthy organic free-range meat.

Sara Di Rienzo, Wyoming Department of Game and Fish, Public Information Officers, says residents can still buy a general license over the counter at license locations but that seasonal and environmental changes may have impacted some species more than others.

High-fire warnings may also be in effect in some public hunting areas. The mullen fire, winter storms, and drought and have affected wildlife.

Elk are plentiful, but Deer, Gaming Birds, and Prong-Horn hunters, may have to trek a bit further up to higher greener elevations and watering holes to find their prize.

Hunters will also need to stop at check-in stations before and after their hunts and provide samples to check for animal diseases.

“We have a lot of information on the Game and Fish website to help make you be successful in the hunt this year. We have the full state-wide forecast available region by region, species by species, that can help guide your planning this year,” said Di Rienzo.
