CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be asking select hunters in select Elk areas to submit blood samples from their harvest.
The department is using those samples to test for the presence of Brucellosis throughout the state. This disease can be transmissible to Elk, Bison and domestic cattle.
This year they send about 8 500 blood collection kits to hunters throughout the state.
If you were selected, hunters are asked to collect their samples after their harvest and keep samples cool to prevent spoiling. Collection sites are located at varying locations and can be dropped off at their coolers, check stations, Game and Fish office, or prepaid mailing boxes that came with the sampler.
Hunters who submit their samples are entered into a raffle with up to $9000 in prize value.
Hunter’s are required to stop and check in at check stations and ask questions and advice about bettering your hunt this fall.
General licenses available still are available for Elk and Deer and are purchasable over the counter.
