In the perpetually fraught restaurant business, double-digit anniversaries are special, because it means the owners beat the odds. That’s the case for The Fish, located at 309 Gray. Its 20th anniversary celebration starts at 4 p.m. on May 1, 2022. Tickets are free and can be found at the Eventbrite website.
Holding company Eightsix’d Hospitality Group (which also owns a plethora of other businesses, including South Bank Seafood Bar, Bovine & Barley, HTX Fan Tavern, Rose Gold Cocktail Den and new additions, Sushi On Post Oak, Ducky McShweeney’s Irish Pub and Toque) is marking the occasion with not just a party and a billboard alongside I-10 but also a $20,000 donation split amongst four charities: BARC, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Houston Food Bank and Asian American Youth Giving Circle.
Long-term employees — of which there are multiple who’ve been with the company more than a decade —will present the $5,000 checks to representatives from each organization during the anniversary party.
A few new dishes are debuting at the anniversary party: Crispy Rice with Tuna Tartare, Thai Chili Yellowtail and Yaki Udon. Other passed bites at the event include the Lickity Split, Blazing Tuna and Beef Rib Eye rolls, as well as whole red snapper.
There’s also a limited-time special on an over-the-top sushi roll. The XX Roll costs $20 (it’s regularly $40) and includes Kobe beef, gold flakes, otoro, avocado, caviar, wasabi tobiko and crispy shallot. Big Ice HTX and Tito’s Vodka are collaborating on a signature cocktail for the evening.
Entertainment at the event includes lion dances, local vendors, live music and giveaways from Tito’s Vodka, Celsius Energy Drink, Big Ice HTX, Alto ride service and We Are One Music Festival.
“We are so grateful to this community that has continued to patronize our business. We are filled with twenty years worth of love and support and we can’t wait for this celebration to give it all back,” says Adam Faulkner, who just left The Fish after being promoted to general manager at the Sushi On Post Oak restaurant, which opened mid-March.
