From tavern-style pizza to the glorious Italian beef sandwich, Chicago is synonymous with food. Sometimes, the city’s most iconic dishes are even immortalized in other forms, such as CaramelCrisp beer and Malört-flavored croutons. And now, there’s a new product to add to the list: Hot dog chips.
Chicago-based convenience chain Foxtrot has just launched potato chips flavored like a Chicago-style hot dog. The famous handheld, which was born by German immigrants during the Great Depression, sports a frankfurter that’s been dragged through the garden—dressed with mustard, green relish, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers and a pickle spear—on a poppy seed bun. The seasoning on Foxtrot’s chips is meant to mimic the traditional toppings (including the bun) plus the “fire-grilled smokiness” of the sausage. Of course, you won’t find any ketchup flavor in these spuds.
Foxtrot claims it’s spent a lot of time refining these chips that pay homage to one of the best food cities in the country. And just like Chicago, the recipe is “sturdy, unapologetic and doesn’t take itself too seriously.” For those who are interested in this fresh spin on a revered classic, you can pick up an eight-ounce bag for $4.99 at a local Foxtrot store. But don't delay as they're only available for a limited time.
